DETROIT, MI – Online job postings for Metro Detroit jumped 95 percent in the third quarter over the second quarter this year, according to a report released Monday by the Workforce Intelligence Network (WIN).
The report counts nine southeast Michigan counties as metro Detroit, including Wayne, Oakland, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Genesee/Shiawassee.
The highest rate of growth was seen in Wayne and Oakland counties, where online job postings grew from 29,451 to 56,625 postings and from 20,230 to 40,443 postings, respectively.
The top five job postings in metro Detroit during the third quarter were retail
salespersons (5,858 postings), registered nurses (4,819 postings), software developers (4,076 postings) sales representatives in wholesale and manufacturing, except technical and scientific products (3,875 postings); and first-line supervisors of retail sales workers (3,475 postings).
In the city of Detroit proper, total online job postings grew 65 percent to 29,365 listings in the third quarter, compared to the second quarter of this year. The most in-demand occupation is registered nurses, followed by truck drivers and software developers.

“Employers are posting at the highest rates we’ve seen since real-time data have been available, a sign they are looking for more people and more talent,” Lisa Katz, WIN Executive Director said in a statement.
WIN is a collaborative effort between local community colleges and seven Michigan Works! agencies. It was founded with support from the New Economy Initiative for Southeast Michigan and launched in November 2011.
The unemployment rate in the Detroit-Warren-Livonia area was 9.6 percent in August, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
